ELSA Training

An ELSA is an Emotional Literacy Support Assistant.

South East Psychology CIC is a registered provider of ELSA training and supervision and has a long and successful track record of providing ELSA training and on-going support and supervision for ELSAs in schools.

The ELSA programme is a five day course delivered by two HCPC registered educational psychologists. It aims to equip teaching assistants, teachers or other staff such as Learning Mentors or Family Liaison Officers with the skills and resources to provide direct individual and small group support to students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. Follow up group supervision/ support is a compulsory element of the training. The training is suitable for staff working in primary, secondary and special schools.

The comprehensive course covers:

  • Emotional literacy/ raising emotional awareness
  • Resilience
  • Active listening and communication skills
  • Self-regulation/ anger management
  • Working with puppets
  • Social skills
  • Friendships skills

ELSA courses can be commissioned and held in individual schools or participants can attend training which is held annually in our training room in Ladywell. Please contact us for dates of future training courses.
